Jessy J and Joe SampleContemporary jazz legends jammed with chart-topping smooth jazz newcomers at the 2008 KSBR Birthday Bash. Secret guest Joe Sample flew in from an appearance in South Korea as a surprise 80th birthday gift to former fellow Jazz Crusader Max Bennett. Joe joined Jessy J (who has the #1 most-played smooth jazz song in the U.S.) along with Greg Vail, Tony Guerrero, Richard Smith, and Max himself for a spirited rendition of the Crusader's classic "Put it Where you Want It."

If you missed this year's Bash, or if you just want to re-live the memories, check out THESE PICTURES from Brian and Kaye Runner (who drive down from Northern California every year for the Bash), or THESE from Sir (click on the KSBR Bash link).

With more than 25 headliners playing with each other in a giant jazz jam, each Bash is a once-in-a-lifetime concert for both the artists and the audience. The music will never happen in exactly the same way again. The line-up for the 19th annual Birthday Bash event included Nick Colionne, Jessy J, Brian Simpson, Derek Bordeaux, Richard Smith, Max Bennett, Michael Paulo, Billy Mitchell, Jackiem Joyner, Sara Gazarek, Greg Adams, Dan Siegel, Steve Oliver, Nils, Michael Manson, Steve Ferrone, Brian Bromberg, Greg Vail, Ron Powell, Rob Whitlock, Blake Aaron, Evan Stone, Johnny Blas, Keith Smith, Shannon Kennedy, Chris Clark, Mombo Hernandez, Donnell Spencer, Tim Landers, Nate Scott, Gerard Hagen, Joey Sellers, and Rafael Feliciano.

Greg Adams and Joe Sample The new Bash home at the Village Green in Mission Viejo featured an expanded jazz fan zone where Bash-goers could mix with their favorite artists like Greg Adams and Joe Sample, while surrounded by the Jazz art of Bettie Miner.

Bringing the Birthday Bash home to KSBR’s hometown came as Mission Viejo celebrates its own 20th Birthday. In fact, we are very proud that the City agreed to join KSBR as a co-sponsor of the event to help make the 2008 Birthday Bash one of the best one ever!

Birthday Bash Gold VIPsThe new venue brought fans closer to the expanded stage, and after a week of rain, the skies cleared for a truly magical evening of great jazz and a chance to hang out with fellow jazz lovers!

Keep checking back as we add more pictures from the 2008 Birthday Bash.

We always try to make each Bash better than the one before. Please email us or call us at (949) 582-4714 if you have any comments or suggestions!

Mark your calendars for Birthday Bash 2009 on May 24!
